HUMAN PERFORMANCE ENGINEERING
"Excellence from Efficiency"

About
Taking charge of our lives - our health and wellbeing - has never been more important ... yet most approaches to doing so are inefficient, at best, because they are partial; incomplete in nature.
Over a lifetime of training, practice, and study I have uncovered a principle that makes possible a process of re-engineering of the body's structure and infrastructure/posture. This process requires nothing external, and is the very opposite of partial. In opposition to conventional assumptions, I have discovered the path to a General Adaptation to a Specific Demand.
There is something common both to stillness AND to quality movement - I show people, first, how to find, recognise, and access this, and from there to develop it indefinitely. In so doing we can work on everything by working on one thing... and vice versa. This is efficiency.
The human mind+body is like a musical instrument: the more we hone and fine-tune it, the better becomes its resonance; its sound. In turn; the better its resonance and sound the more efficient, rewarding, and without limit our practise in playing it becomes.
What I do defies categorization: I am not a strength & conditioning coach, yet professional and amateur athletes/teams have all realized benefits across the spectrum of physicality; crucially including a reduction in injuries. Neither am I a rehabilitation specialist, but I get people out of pain & restriction, and have helped many permanently avoid "inevitable" surgery; I solve problems that MDs, physiotherapists, chiropractors, and osteopaths often cannot; I am not bound by the inherent limitations of specific paradigms that others often unwittingly are.
I know some things that can be learned only through the long process of physical understanding; things not found in books, because they require something more than just the intellect. You can look for me where the roles of engineer, technician, tuning-specialist, and virtuoso converge on the Human Body. I'm generally found in the 4th and 5th standard deviations.
People initially come to learn from and work with me for a variety of reasons, yet all notice positive effects in seemingly unrelated areas - this is neither accident nor surprise. These areas are only unrelated when considered through an incomplete/reductionist/partial understanding of human anatomy & physiology.
What I have to offer is not available elsewhere. I dug this out of the ground myself and have had it confirmed over years of application and refinement: first borne of necessity with my own physiology, and subsequently with countless others of all ages and abilities. I do not teach or parrot other people's ideas or systems. While there is nothing new under the sun, rest assured that you are getting this information from original source.

Testimonials
Tom Sheppard, Owner Phoenix Performance Training
"The best don't have knowledge that you can get from any textbook or youtube video. They have knowledge that is honed over time by applying their craft in a very deliberate and throughtful manner. This type of knowledge simply cannot be bought or faked. Lyall is one such individual. His expertise comes from a passionate and longterm devotion to better understanding how the human body functions... and you will find very few who understand it like he does"
- Coach & Author at EliteFTS, Head Coach at Thibarmy, former European Powerlifting Champion
Andy Robertson , Liverpool FC, & Scotland (captain)
“Lyall helped me massively during my time at Dundee United with a variety of exercises. The results were very positive and I could feel myself becoming stronger and more flexible in both the upper and lower halves of my body. Throughout the season I continued to improve and build up the muscles I required. By the end of it I was lifting more than at the start and the results were clear to see”
Stuart Barton, Scotland Rugby Team Therapist
In one word – EXTRAORDINARY
and here is why ...
Extraordinary trainer
- After almost a lifetime of dedication to strength, conditioning and fitness training Lyall has evolved into the most unique trainer I know.
Extraordinary fitness of Lyall himself
- Lyall’s own fitness is extraordinary. An extremely low body fat allows his own musculature be observed during exercise demonstration – utilising visualisation as a vital tool in exercise learning and performance.
Extraordinary ideas
- Dean Inges once said “originality is undetected plagiarism” and I am certain Lyall will not claim all his ideas are his and his alone - but he has ‘compiled’ together through experience, adaptation and a never ending thirst for knowledge - a complete body performance “bibliography”. Watching Lyall’s exercises is simply amazing.
Extraordinary anatomy & physiology knowledge
- Lyall continues to study these fundamental principles and his knowledge can rival most physiotherapists. This allows Lyall to tailor sport specific, injury specific and indeed life specific fitness programmes.
Extraordinary person
- Lyall in short, is one of the most caring, compassionate, sincere, dedicated people I have ever met. These characteristics coupled together with a great work ethic and a brilliant sense of humour have created in my opinion, the best trainer I have had the pleasure to work with. I will always wish him well.
Stuart Barton
Stuart was the Scotland Rugby Team physiotherapist for 12 years, working in 3 world cups and 101 internationals. He was also chosen to be the British & Irish Lions Physiotherapist in 2005. In 2008 Stuart set up his own private Physiotherapy Practice which he still works at alongside other practitioners.
